Psalm 2: Our God Reigns
Thursday Aug 19, 2021
Thursday Aug 19, 2021
Throughout the Scriptures we are reminded that God's people are engaged in spiritual conflict with our enemy and adversary, Satan. Yet, so often, we bring frustration and discouragement upon ourselves by living as if the only things that matter are those things that may be seen and felt. But Scripture corrects us and reminds us that we must live by faith and not on mere appearances. This morning, ask our Lord to give you the true and greater vision of His Kingdom and His glory. Then give Him the praise of which He is worthy.

Remember....
The first psalm speaks literally concerning Christ. He is the only "Blessed One" and the only man from whose fullness we have all received.
The book of Psalms should be precious and dear to us, if only because it most clearly promises the death and resurrection of Christ and describes His kingdom and the nature and standing of all Christian people. Martin Luther

Preparing for Worship
"Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn't. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man... Worship, therefore, is the fuel and goal of missions. It's the goal of missions because in missions we simply aim to bring the nations into the white-hot enjoyment of God's glory. The goal of missions is the gladness of the peoples in the greatness of God." John Piper

"The unsearchable riches of Christ"
Our Master has riches beyond count... They are unsearchable! You may look, and study, and weigh, but Jesus is a greater Savior than you think Him to be when your thoughts are at the greatest. Our Lord is more ready to pardon than you are to sin, more able to forgive than you to transgress. Our Master is more willing to supply your wants than you are to confess them. Never tolerate low thoughts of our Lord Jesus. Charles Spurgeon

Preparing for Worship:
"The more you know about the world, and the God who made it, you may be tempted to be proud of what you know. But if you wish to be wise, the first and most important thing to know is that God is great and we are not."

The Christian's hope is positive. His youth is like that of the heir who knows precisely what awaits him. No, more than this, the Christian has the assurance which no heir in temporal things can ever have. He knows with absolute certainty that the inheritance will not merely be kept for him, but that he will be kept for it.
Gerhardus Vos

Growing by the Word of God:
The greatest single secret of spiritual development lies in the personal, humble, believing, obedient response to the Word of God. It is as God speaks to us through His Word that His warnings can bring us to conviction of sin, His promises to assurance of forgiveness and His commands to amendment of life. We live and grow by the Word.
John Stott
